Function and tasks:

Researching the medical microbial-immunology and epidemiology; implementing the strategies of health sectors in preventive medicine of Viet Nam.

- Researching the virology, microbiology, immunology and epidemiology..., especially the national health programs, the national techno-scientific programs in order to prevent and eradicate the communicable and transmitted diseases that thay were limited but may return, the diseases related micro-environment-economy-society.

- International cooperating in researching, updating the scientific progress in preventive medicine, and in researching the common diseases, new diseases to catch the change of disease structure in the industrialization and modernization period of the country.

- Researching and cooperating in research of the development of production/trial of vaccines, biological substances in order to prevent and diagnose some high risk communicable diseases. This contributes the people's health protection and care.

- Training and retraining the cadres in the field of preventive medicine (graduation and post graduation).

- Publication of scientific themes.

- Editing and printing the medical books, monographs, updating the scientific progress, high technology in education to implement readily the transfer of new technologies.

- Establishing and perfecting the functional facilities in the network of the preventive medicine, especially in the district and provincial levels for profession knowledge, management, skills and equipments to work effectively, priority to the remote, mountain, deep, island and ethnic minority areas.
