- Viet Nam cardiovascular institute (VTM) was established in 11^st november, 1989 according to the dicision No 704/BYT/QD by ministry of health. VTM has 6 clinical departments and 4 invasive and non-invasive test departments.

The main functions and tasks:

- Researching systematically the ways of the cardiovascular disease prevention and control in order to reduce the morbididy and mortality of the cardiovascular disease in Viet Nam.
- Collaborating with Ha Noi medical university and other universities in training, retraining, teaching in the cardiovascular profession in higher education and postgraduation.
- Supervising and guiding the cardiovascular profession for lower levels in the whole country.
- Diagnosing and treating the cardiovascular disease
- Implementing the cardiovascular tests.
- Cooperating with other countries and international organization in order to upgrade the cardiovascular techniques in Viet Nam.
- Dissemining the knowledge in prevention, treatment and rehabitation of cardiovascular functions to contribute to the people health protection and care.
- Self-managing and administering properly according to the regulation and policies of Viet Nam governmental.

Some main achievements:

. Trained 21 courses in cardiovascular oriented profession for doctors in the whole country.
. Trained 18 courses in cardiogram, 10 courses in ultrasound-Doppler for heart.
Contributing to train 25 phylosophy doctors, 31 master of science, 18 medical doctor with 2^nd grade, 40 hospital medical doctors and many 1^st grade medical doctors in the south of Viet Nam.
Many medical doctors of VTM are candidates of courses of phylosophy doctors, and master of science.
- Guiding the profession for lower levels: cadres of vtm are sent to provincial level to supervise, guide and teach in profession, technique and updated knowledge of cardiovascular. This aims to upgrade the diagnosis and treatment for doctors in the lower levels.
- Consultation and treatment:
. Consultation: 12000 every year
. Admitting and treating the patients with severe cardiovascular diseases from all provinces.
. Inpatients: 200 (200% compared with planned beds).
. Cooperating closely and effectively with many cardiovascular institutes and cardiovascular experts in many countries such as France, America, China, Korea, Singapore, Japan etc ... in the high technical assistance.
