Institute of malaria, parasitology and entomology (IMPE) was established by prime minister according to the dicision No 287/TTg dated 1st July 1957.

- Researching, applying the technical methods for malaria, parasitology and entomology prevention and control.

- Communicating the scientific knowledge in the above mentioned diseases prevention and control.
- Management of programs of the malaria, parasitology and entomalogy prevention and control.

Some main achievements:

- 445 themes were studied (5 national levels) including:
. Epidemology of malaria;
. Transmission seasons of malaria;
. Morphological feature, distribution and drug resistance of malaria;
. Clinic, treatment, methods of vector prevention and diseases due to parasites.
- 25 themes are being implemented during 1996-2001 (1 national level).
- Developing the international cooperation in the field of malaria and parasitological prevention and control with many foreign countries, organizations and individuals such as: World Health Organization, Netherland, Swidden, England, France, America, Germany and Australia... etc... 25 cooperated themes were finished successfully and 13 cooperated themes are being implemented.
- Active and effective assistance in technique and science in national program of malaria control since 1958. This contributes significantly to reduce the morbidity and mortality and epidemic by malaria.
