Functions:
Researching
and guiding the profession of malaria, parasitological
diseases, entomology and the ways of prevention and control of
these diseases in 14 provinces including 11 provinces of coast
line from Quang Binh to Binh Thuan and 3 provinces of central
highland: Kon Tum, Gia Lai and DakLak.
Tasks:
- Researching the malaria,
parasites and insects which transmit the diseases, the
diseases by parasites and the ways of prevnetion and control.
- Profession guiding:
Assisting the ministry of health in managing, leading and
guiding the organization, profession, technique and plan of
malaria control, parasitological and entomological disease
prevention and control in the 14 above mentioned provinces.
- Communication and education:
Communicating and educating the causative agents, harm and the
way of malarial, parasitological and entomological disease
prevention and control fer cadres and people.
- Training:
- Training the technicians at middle and higher degrees.
Training and retraining profession, technique for cadres,
managers in all levels.
- Collaborating with the universities in training students and
M.S and Ph.D candidates.
- International cooperation:
Establishing the cooperation in research, training and
implementation of projects with institutes, domestic and
international governmental or non-governmental organizations
related with malaria, parasitological and entomogogical
diseases prevention and control.

Some main achievements:
- Scientific research: implemented
98 scientific themes in which national themes: 05, ministrial
themes: 31, local themes: 40, the international cooperated
themes: 22.
- Profession guiding:
Assisting the ministry of health for malaria prevention and
control in 14 provinces, 128 districts, 1844 communes with
13,4 million of rehabitants in which 50% population with 40
ethnics who live in malaria circulation areas.
The morbidity of malaria, the plasmodium, the malignant
malaria and the mortality of malaria reduced 43,38%; 56,42%;
90,80%; 91,08% in 2000s compares with these in 1991
(respectively).
Continuous 4 years (1993-1996), there had no malaria epidemic
while previous years there had hundreds of malaria epidemic.
In 2000, a small malaria epidemic occured but it was early
detected and stopped.

Training and upgrade training:
- 10 courses with 254 technical middle degree participants
were completed.
- Retraining the technical profession for 97 courses with 3021
participants
- 15 courses for 961 health cadres
- 11 courses for 236 laboratorians
- 4 couses for 4 groups of malaria control
- 4 competitions of excellent technicians.
- 4 national conference

- Participating to teach the Ph.D candidates.
The
communication and education:
- Publishing 18 tapes of video, 30
tapes of cassette, 3 rolls of film, 30100 of hoardings,
posters and pictures, 38000 books, thausands of information
leaflets of malarial parasitological and entomological
prevention and control.
International
cooperation:
- Enhancing the international
cooperation; participating the projects and themes with
medical committee of Netherland Viet Nam (MCNV), CaRE
international, UNICEF, NAYOGA university of Japan, the project
of malaria control of Australia-Viet Nam, the project of
malaria control of Viet -Nam-EC and WHO ... etc...
- Sending many cadres to exchange
the experiences, study and research in Russia, China, India,
Australia, Thai lan, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and
Philippines.
