- Viet Nam national institute and hospital of acupuncture (VNIHA) is leading institute (including hospital) under ministry of health, was established in 24th April 1982.

Function and tasks:

1. Cunsultation and treatment for patients at highest level by using method without drugs: Acupuncture, massage and therapy of acupuncture point as theory and techniques of traditional medicine.
2. Researching the mechanism of acupuncture, modernization of acupuncture profession step by step.
3. Training and retraining. Profession leading and guiding the lower levels.
4. Editing and publishing the materials of acupuncture.
5. International cooperation: exchanging experience of acupuncture

Some main achievements:

- 2 themes at national level, 8 themes at ministrial level, 10 themes at local level.

- Admitting and treating the severe patients such as hemiplegia due to cerebrovascular accidents in adults, paralysis due to encephalitis in children, facial-paralysis, blurred vision or vision or vision lost due to optic papillae atrophy, deaf, sequela due to injuries, pain, withdrawal of drug addiction, nerve VII paralysis.

- Applying the anesthesia by acupuncture is unique medical procedure of the orient. This reduces the use of anaesthesia drugs; Patients recover early and complications due to anaesthesia reduced.

. 150 for 400-500 outpatients

- VNIHA has seperately section for foreign patients, with accomodation and medical equipments as the international standard.
