Thai nguyen medical college is the sole medical college of north Vietnam's mountain provinces. It was established in 1968. Throughout more than 30 years of the formation and growth, is has trained  almost 8000 medical doctors for the country. The College has an annual enrolment of 2,500 students who are under three systems:

- Six-year full-time undergraduates;
- Three-year special-course undergaduates; and
- Two- or three-year course for post-graduates

Its main hospital for practice is the 500-bed Thai Nguyen Central Polyclinic. It has a teaching staff of 300, comprising professors, doctors, masters, medical doctors, pharmacists and bachelors teaching at 34 sections of the College and 30 wards of the Polyclinic.
Its international relations have been continually increased. Its close and all-sided cooperation with the Thai Nguyen Central Polyclinic and its regular exchanges with other medical colleges and major hospitals in the country together with expansion of its international relations constitute fundamental factors which have significant and decisive impact on its quality of training.
